POSITION:

LEARNING ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST, NURSING
FULL-TIME 12 MONTH POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides supplemental instruction for students in nursing, including both didactic, lab, and clinical instruction. Position will also provide remedial instruction for students preparing for the exit examination in the ADN program.  Assists in the organization of the nursing skills and simulation labs.
•           Inventories, stocks, and maintains supplies for nursing labs.
•           Assist nursing faculty with the operation of the nursing skills and simulator labs.
•           Performs basic programming of simulators for practice scenarios as instructed by faculty.
•           Assists faculty as needed with operating simulators for special sessions.
•           Practice lab skills with nursing students.
•           Assist nursing faculty with the various modes of learning assistance designed to help students who have difficulty with comprehending nursing subject matter.
•           Provide individualized instructional assistance in nursing.
•           Assist in identifying student deficiencies and suggest an appropriate student plan of action in consultation with the nursing faculty.
•           Assist in the development of supplemental instruction material.
•           Conduct learning activities for students needing remediation to achieve successful scores on comprehensive standardized program exit exam.
•           Proctor standardized exit exams, and other exams as needed.
•           Assist in the organization of instructional software, supplies, and assessment materials in the nursing program.
•           Tutor students enrolled in all nursing courses.
•           Demonstrates commitment to the mission of the community college.
•           Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  Illinois licensure and a Bachelors of Science in Nursing are required.  A minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience required.
